Teaching sciences and mathematics in English

Government needs to go back to the usage of Malay language in the teaching and learning system for science and mathematics subjects to bring up the status of Malay language together supporting it as the worldly language.

The president of the Institution of Malay civilization of Pendidikan Sultan Idris University, Prof. Emeritus Abdullah Hassan claims that the usage of English language not only failed to show any success but did not give any benefits at all to Malaysian students.

According to him, results from an investigation that was carried out by a group of investigators shows that 87.7. Percent of Malay students cannot master the use of English language.

“Understanding history and the importance of putting Malay language in its place are important so that the spirit of taking charge foreign language will not drag down the status of our own language which becomes the pillar of agglutination along with founding the genuine self of all the citizens of this country.

“Malaysia has done a lot for appropriate foreign language, but in the end failed with the language they tried to imitate”, he reported when delivering a general talk entitles ‘Malay language in crossroad; between genuine self and collidation of globalization at the cultural hall of science Malaysia university (USM), yesterday.

Abdullah gave an example of one country Africa that use foreign language as the companion language at schools, is not appointed as a progressive country.

Furthermore, it was said that, country that become predominant over their own language included Japan, Korea, France, China and German, are successful in embracing various kinds and numeral coefficients counting in science and mathematics.

“Government needs to pay attention to the voices of the Malaysian citizens in question of learning system because it is their right to voice out their opinion.

“The modification in language that is used in learning indirectly will vary the behavior and genuine self of that each race,” he claims.
